Construction Process

Building Your New Home

1

Plan Selection

The plan selection process involves choosing a floorplan that aligns with your lifestyle, preferences, and budget. You'll need to consider factors like layout, size, and functionality. You’ll then customize the floorplan such as optional room configurations, finishes, and energy-efficient options. Collaboration with McKelvey Homes ensures the design meets your needs, while adhering to budget and local regulations. This process allows you to create a home that is both practical and personalized.

2

Personalizations

The color selection process allows you to personalize your space with finishes, colors, and materials that reflect your style. From choosing the exterior finishes and colors, to interior flooring and cabinetry, to selecting countertops, lighting, and paint, this process involves working closely with McKelvey Homes Design Center. You'll have the opportunity to select features that enhance both aesthetics and functionality, ensuring your new home matches your vision and lifestyle.

3

Construction

The construction process begins with a Pre-Construction Meeting with your Field Manager. After permit has been received, the construction process begins with site preparation, excavation, and the foundation.  Next comes framing, plumbing, roofing, HVAC, and electrical. As the home takes shape, exterior and interior features are added, including windows, doors, and finishes. McKelvey Homes coordinates each phase to ensure quality and adherence to timelines, with inspections along the way to meet safety and regulatory standards. Throughout the process, you’ll stay informed, ensuring your dream home is built to your specifications.

    4

    Pre-Drywall Walk-Through

As your new home nears the drywall stage, your Field Manager will contact you to schedule a Pre-Drywall Meeting at the home site. This important walk-through is an opportunity to review and confirm your electrical selections—including lighting, low-voltage, and other upgrades—before drywall installation begins. During this meeting, you'll be able to see the quality of construction and materials used, verify that your optional features and upgrades have been installed as requested, and discuss the next steps in the construction timeline. The goal of the Pre-Drywall Meeting is to catch any needed adjustments early, helping to prevent errors or rework later in the process. The meeting typically lasts about one hour and ensures that you and your Field Manager are aligned before moving into the final stages of construction.

      5

      New Home Orientation Walk-Through

As your home nears final completion, your Field Manager will contact you to schedule a New Home Orientation Walk-Through at the homesite. This exciting milestone is your opportunity to tour the home alongside your Field Manager and receive a full demonstration of the selections, features, and options you've chosen throughout the design and build process. During the walk-through, you'll review every aspect of your new home—from the basement to the bedrooms, and even the exterior. Your Field Manager will also create a small punch list of any items that need attention before closing, ensuring everything is in top shape. At McKelvey Homes, we take great pride in having your home fully prepared for this walk-through. We’re just as excited as you are to deliver your brand-new McKelvey Home!

        6

        Closing

Closing for a new home marks the final step in the home-building process. During this phase, all paperwork is completed, loan commitment finalized, including final inspections, approvals, and the transfer of ownership and utilities. You’ll review the home’s features, ensure everything is in place, and address any last-minute details with the Field Manager. Once everything is finalized, you receive the keys to your new home, making it officially yours to move into and enjoy.

          7

          Moving Day

Move-in day is an exciting milestone, marking the transition from construction to settling into your dream home. It’s a time to check that everything is in order, from final touches to utilities, and to start unpacking and arranging your belongings. The journey from planning to construction is complete, and now you can fully enjoy your new McKelvey home!
